Shih Fu Eileen Hancock – Founder
Shih Fu Eileen Hancock is a visionary and entrepreneur who founded Body Balance Academy of Northern California in 2003. She brings over 30 years of experience in the ancient arts of Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Kung Fu to her students and instructors. She specializes in health consulting and started the Lotus Scholar Philosophy and Health Group in 2009. Shih Fu Hancock founded the non-profit Lifelong Health, Incorporated in 2014 with a vision of spreading Tai Chi and Qi Gong as a global resource for harmonizing the world. In 2016, she created and built Pura Vida Tai Chi and Kung Fu Immersion center in Costa Rica. Her mission is to preserve and teach the ancient arts to optimize health and well being in a modern world.

Catherine Stifter – Tai Chi head instructor
Shih Fu Catherine learned Yang Style Tai Chi from Shih Fu Ken Huie and studied with him for three years. She has been a student at Body Balance Academy since it opened. Catherine enjoys the energetic dimensions of the internal martial arts as much as she recognizes the physical and mental benefits of consistent practice. She is a seasoned meditator in the Vipassana/insight tradition. Catherine just retired from a long career as a public radio documentary maker focusing on issues of social justice. Chris Hooley – Tai Chi/ Push Hands instructor
Shih Fu Chris Hooley began his training at Body Balance Academy in 2009. He was quickly promoted to the Lotus Scholar Program. He has studied the five element theory as well as traditional Taoist philosophy and the Yin & Yang founding principles. He specializes in Push Hands and has a deep understanding of the traditional Tai Chi form applications.

Tina Heck – Tai Chi instructor
Shih Fu Tina studied Tien Shan Pai Kung Fu for three years in the Bay Area. In 2009, she began studying Tai Chi at Body Balance Academy. Tina studied Spirituality and the Arts at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA. In her day job, Tina is Marketing Director for United Camps, Conferences and Retreats (UCCR).

Ki’Ala Lujan – Kung Fu instructor
Shih Fu Ki’Ala Lujan began training at Body Balance Academy in 2009. She joined the Leadership team that same year and began competing at the International Kuoshu Tournament. Her medal count is impressive:

2010 – 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze
2011 – 3 silver
2013 – 2 gold
2014 – 1 gold, 2 bronze

Ki’Ala earned her black sash in 2014 and began teaching that same year. She is a designer who created the BBA logo. Ki’Ala is a student at UC Santa Cruz and continues to teach when she is home on break.
Steve Adel – Kung Fu/ Tai Chi instructor
Shih Fu Steve Adel studied Ba Gua from 1990 to 1997 in the Bay Area. He began his training at Body Balance Academy in 2010. He was quickly promoted to the Leadership Team and achieved his black sash in March, 2015. Shih Fu Steve won two silver and two gold medals in open hand and weapons forms at Richard Lee’s Kung Fu Tournament in San Ramon, November 2015. Shih Fu Steve offers his dedication to both the Kung Fu and Tai Chi programs.

Summer Lujan – Kung Fu Kids instructor
Summer Lujan facilitates all programs at Body Balance Academy with an integrative approach to ensure the highest level of learning in a safe environment. Summer offers her knowledge of child development to create an optimal learning environment in the children’s programs. Her experience provides children with a healthy and encouraging environment to develop self confidence, respect and discipline all while having fun! Summer brings an exceptional awareness of health and wellness to all programs at Body Balance Academy.

Moses Traugot - Kung Fu / Sparring Instructor
Shih Fu Mo's martial arts experience began with studying Karate as a young teenager. Mo began training at Body Balance Academy in 2007. Just six months later, in August 2007, he won a gold medal in sparring and a silver medal for the two-man set at the 2nd International Traditional Kung Fu Tournament in Oakland. Mo won a gold medal in sparring at the 2016 International Kuo Shu Championship Tournament in Baltimore. He earned his Black Sash in September of 2018. Mo now teaches Sparring and Advanced Kung Fu, as well as Tai Chi.

Liam Harton - Kid’s Kung Fu Instructor
Shih Fu Liam began his Kung Fu training at Body Balance Academy in 2016. He soon joined the Leadership Team. He graduated from Ghidotti Early College High School in 2018 and now attends Sierra College.
Erin Paone - Kid’s Kung Fu Instructor
Shih Fu Erin began her studies with Body Balanne Academy is 2013. She loves to stay fit and be active. Erin assists in teaching the Kid’s Kung Fu classes and this year she is embarking on acquiring her brown belt. Since 2015, Erin has been studying traditional Chinese Fan dance and calligraphy, as well as speaking Mandarin with Native born Chinese speaker Lilly Zhi Zhu Jones. Erin has also begun her study of QiGong and Tai Chi at Body Balance. Kung Fu helps Erin stay grounded and strong, providing her more room to expand positively in most areas of her life. She truly loves working with others in this way.
